A warm welcome
We are pleased to welcome you to our web
site and hope you enjoy a virtual tour of our winery and, of course, our wines. We are ready to answer any of your enquiries either in person at the winery or by telephone during office hours. You can also e-mail us.
When visiting the winery, we trust that you will learn about our approach to winemaking
and how the unique geological and climatic conditions of the Rheingau region make our wines so special. Most importantly we offer you the opportunity to experience this magic for yourself in our tasting rooms.
The Hans Lang wine estate was founded in 1953 by my father, Johann Joseph Lang. We have 18
hectares of vineyards in the renowned villages of Hattenheim and Assmannshausen which border the river Rhine. These are planted to Riesling (75%), Pinot noir (15%), Pinot blanc (5%), Chardonnay
(2%), Grüner Silvaner (2%) and Pinot gris (1%). In very good years we also produce a small amount of Gewürztraminer, my father’s personal favourite.
Only the very best fruit makes it into our wines and to
achieve this, we employ natural viticultural methods, restrict yields and selectively harvest by hand. The wine is aged in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and, where
appropriate, in traditional oak barrels or small (220 litre) new oak “barriquesâ€. Of our white wines, 85% are dry whilst all of our red wines are dry. We are also proud of our noble sweet
wines which are classified according to residual sugar level: Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein.
